Man May, Cellist, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a mariachi teacher certification from Texas State University in 2009. She started learning the cello at the age of 8 at the University of Texas at Austin String Project. Mrs. May is a dedicated musician with an extensive performance history. Highlights of her performance career include performing with the Texas State Symphony Orchestra at TMEA convention in 2005, “Julliard Meets Texas State” a side-by-side concert with musicians from the Julliard School under the direction of Julliard composition faculty member Wayne Oquin, and Texas State Symphonic Choir under the direction of Craig Hella Johnson of Conspirare. Mrs. May’s previous teaching career included 4 years as orchestra director at Sul Ross MS in Northside ISD, which had the honor having Mr. Yo Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble clinic the orchestra & receive a free concert, Northside ISD representative orchestra for the National PTA Founder’s Day, feature orchestra for American Funds Holiday events, and turning Sul Ross MS into a “Sweepstakes” school. Mrs. May also had the privilege to work with Mrs. Brenda Johnson as an orchestra assistant at Dr. Hector Garcia MS in Northside ISD. Not only is Mrs. May passionate about music, she loves to share her musical life with others. She can be seen around the city at different events performing. She loves teaching students of all ages and has a private studio at her home in Austin, TX. Mrs. May is super excited to be working in Lake Travis ISD since she is a Lake Travis HS Alumni class of 2004. Mrs. May currently teaches at Lake Travis MS Orchestra at Lake Travis ISD in Austin, TX and resides with her adoring husband James and 2 kids.
